About Us

We are an association of Baptist churches of believers committed to worshipping and serving Jesus Christ. As Southern Baptist Associations of churches we join with likeminded Christians in spreading the gospel around the world.

Our Mission:  The Morganton and Mountaintown Baptist Associations are seeking to equip existing churches to fulfill the Great Commission working cooperatively in planting new churches and ministries by reaching, teaching, and maturing people for Kingdom growth.

Christ reached out to people of all ages and backgrounds and in the churches of the  Morganton Baptist Association and the Mountaintown Baptist Association we desire to do the same. That's why you'll discover here ministries geared to various life stages and needs. That's why we have a place for everyone to study the Scriptures, fellowship together, and minister to others through numerous service opportunities.

We want you to be a part of the blessings of God in the life of one of our churches. We'll bring you updates on just what's happening in the  Morganton and Mountaintown Baptist Associations and share the stories of how Christ is making a difference in people's lives.

Meet our Associational Missionary

Rev. Claude Mathis has served the Morganton and Mountaintown Baptist Associations as Associational Missionary since January 1, 2006.  He comes to this place of service following a 24 year pastorate at Lebanon Baptist Church in Epworth, GA.  Claude has been involved in the life of the Morganton Baptist Associaton for more than 30 years and looks forward to working in both associations as AM.   He accepted the call to the ministry of the Gospel in 1981.  He has a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Shorter College and an Associate Degree in Pastoral Ministries from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Claude enjoys visiting with the pastors and churches in the associations.  The opportunity to worship with new congregations after 24 years with one church is very invigorating.  He is excited about  serving as the associational missionary and looks forward with great anticipation to the future of the associations.

Claude is married to the former Kathi Mattox.  They have been married for over 41 years.  Kathi serves as a registered nurse at the emergency room of the Copper Basin Medical Center, Copperhill, TN.  Claude and Kathi have four children and seven grandchildren.

Our Mission and Ministry Resource Center

The Mission and Ministry Resource Center is located just off Highway 515 in Blue Ridge, Georgia. The Center provides office space for the missionary and for the Ministry Assistant, Mrs. Martha Kreis, a workroom, a library of resource materials, and two classrooms for offering training in all areas of ministry and technology. Many people visit the Mission Center each week.  The center is used for a free food distribution, free medical clinic and free dental clinics. It is home to the breast cancer support group, weight watchers, a monthly breakfast for pastors, a counseling ministry and a host of other meetings which occur occasionally.
